Like I posted before, last night American Restoration fixed up a car from my love, the Keansburg Spook House from 1928 made by Pretzel.
There are 2 types of people. People who love Pretzel rides and people who are stupid. The Spook House is the thing that kept us coming back to Keansburg year after year. Too many parks have metal behemoths. Those types of rides are not different. Keansburg had an array of vintage rides and games that you will not find anywhere else. The Spook House was the crown jewel. This ride was the oldest operational ride of this type before Sandy wiped it out last year. I actually cried over it. And then went nuts. I was afraid that the park would not realize the immense value they have here. I am glad that they do.
Thank you to John from Hollowgraves Haunted Manor at Keansburg for tipping me off on this. I watched this entire episode with my eye twitching and barely breathing. To see this being restored was a dream come true for me.
I LIKE WHAT I LIKE.
Here are screenshots for those of you who may not have seen the show.

EDIT: American Restoration did this for free and gave them the materials to finish the rest of the cars.

WONDERFUL STUFF ONI! THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE POST. I AM NEW TO THE KEANSBURG AMUSEMENTS SINCE ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO. Even though I lived in Asbury during the ‘Golden Age’ (for ME, the mid-60’s – mid 70’s) I knew little of THIS towns great amusements. I worked for large travelling carnivals/shows (Strates, Royal American, etc. ) in my 20’s, and as a youth, grew up a stones throw from Palisades Amusement Park, which shaped my love for, and desire to PROTECT all of the great, old (or new) parks and amusements- but ESP. those with history, character, and that special charm that one doesn’t see that often these days. We cannot LOSE another ‘Palace’ like the develop-Nazis did in Asbury. That broke MY heart, as did the razing of Palisades around that same time period, for high-rise apts. Anyway, thanks for this info, and for posting the great shots! Haven’t seen the epi. YET, but will look for it for SURE, now! Best, Al McD.
The owners of the Keansburg Amusement park did not own the Pretzel ride at any point in time from the until Sandy wrecked it. It was only after Sandy they took it over. The new car looks nice, but I am not a fan of revisionist history.
It is not likely the Pretzel will run anytime soon. Also, the other cars will never look like that one unless they get shipped out to Vegas as well.
