This is great news for all of the haunt fans out there. I heard from The Travel Channel that Randy Bates of The Bates Motel has purchased the absolutely creepy Pennhurst State School and Hospital in Spring City. He is going to turn it into a new haunt for October 2010. It will be called Pennhurst Institution of Fear.
What does this mean in plain English?
The guy who created the best farm haunt I have ever been to has bought a scary insane asylum. He is putting a haunted house inside it and restoring the building.
I hope that this could be another Eastern State Penitentiary kind of deal where you get a REALLY FREAKING SCARY ATMOSPHERE during the day and a kikass haunt at night. It’s like Jem and the Holograms just swallowed up Master Shredder IN MY MIND!
I cannot WAIT to see this! You can bet I will be here to review it for the October 2010 season! I might make this one my first stop. You can be sure I will post any news I can find about this in the meantime.
Here is some information about Pennhurst’s history. (Hey, it looks like I posted this news here before even Wikipedia got ahold of it!)

Is this the place where teenagers were stabbed by a homeless person, because they went there at night?!
Luckily no…that one was Lakeland Asylum in Kentucky: /?p=1693
I did hear that there were problems with homeless people here too, but I haven’t found anything saying anyone was killed. Before the asylum closed there were allegations of patient rape and abuse…someone said they chopped someone up, but I don’t know if it’s true. Sadly, rape and abuse happened a lot in all of these places. 🙁 Patients were sometimes killed by their doctors because they didn’t know how to treat insane people and just made it worse.
